Reading
In marking period 1, students will read historical fiction and analyze different themes. Students will compare the themes in literary texts. Students will also read informational texts and describe events and ideas in chronological order.
Social Studies
In marking period 1, students will analyze geographic settlement patterns in Maryland and the United States. Students will also learn about the Native Americans of North America from the Great Plains, Southwest Desert and Pacific Northwest.
Writing
In marking period 1, students will focus on opinion writing and organization of their ideas. Students will following the writing process and construct a character analysis. Students will also spend time on informative writing and narratives.
